URGENT ACTION FOR SAFEGUARDING THE RIGHTS OF AHMADIYYA COMMUNITY IN PAKISTAN FOLLOWUP #1 27 July 2020
Further to our most recent report about the situation of Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan and the plan of extremist clerics to persecute them on the occasion of the upcoming Muslim festival of Eidul-Adha, there has been a new development today.
The President of the Lahore High Court Bar Association, the largest association of lawyers of Pakistan, has written a letter (see attached copy of the letter) to the Interior Minister of the Government of Punjab requiring him to issue directions to police officers all over the province of Punjab, to not allow Ahmadis to perform the ritual of Qurbani (animal sacrifice) on the occasion of Eidul-Adha.
The never-ending persecution of Ahmadis continues with every facet of their life being affected. There is no safety and security for them from cradle to grave. This kind of bigotry and intolerance has so deepened in the Pakistani society that lawyers who are the custodians of democracy are at the forefront of targeting this peaceful community. We urge all those who respect and value human rights to speak out and stand with Ahmadis in their time of need.
