Pakistan: Extremist Mob Protest in Talagang Escalates Threats Against Ahmadiyya Community
Talagang: Ahmadiyya Muslim Place of Worship (Mosque) Under Threat by Extremist Mob.
On 19 March 2025, members of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) gathered in large numbers in Talagang, specifically in the village of and at Tarhada Chowk, with the intent to demolish an Ahmadiyya Muslim place of worship. The mob included individuals from surrounding villages who joined the attack, posing an immediate threat to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
It was reported that TLP members openly threatened to demolish the Ahmadiyya Muslim mosque in the presence of police, yet local authorities failed to act. Reports indicate that police were present at the scene but, rather than intervening to protect the place of worship, they facilitated the extremists’ demands by removing the mosque’s outer safety barriers. This blatant act of complicity highlights a growing pattern of state-enabled persecution against religious minorities in Pakistan.
The government’s failure to protect Ahmadi Muslim citizens and their places of worship has once again exposed the impunity enjoyed by extremist groups. The continued targeting of Ahmadiyya Muslim sites under the pretext of religious extremism poses a grave risk to Pakistan’s religious minorities and violates fundamental human rights. See video1

An Urgent Call for International Intervention
The growing wave of religious persecution against Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan demands urgent global attention. The systematic targeting of Ahmadiyya Muslim places of worship and the failure of local authorities to uphold their duty to protect religious minorities represent blatant violations of international human rights obligations.
Pakistan is in breach of international conventions that guarantee freedom of religion and protection against religious discrimination. The IHRC calls upon the governments of the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom, all of whom have affirmed their commitment to religious freedom, to take immediate action by engaging with Pakistani authorities. At this critical moment, escalating state-sanctioned persecution must not go unchallenged.
The International Human Rights Committee (IHRC) urgently calls upon Pakistani authorities and the international community to intervene as Ahmadi Muslim citizens face severe threats to their religious freedom and safety. A violent mob, led by the extremist group Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), launched an attack on an Ahmadiyya Muslim mosque in Talagang, Punjab, on 19 March 2025.
Despite the presence of law enforcement, authorities surrendered to extremist pressure instead of protecting religious minorities. The police were reported to be complicit, facilitating the removal of safety grills from the mosque’s walls rather than taking measures to protect the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
