The Silent Genocide Deepens — Pakistan’s War on Ahmadi Muslims Reaches Their Dead
Incident Summary:
On the night between July 28 and 29, 2025, at approximately 1:30 AM, personnel from Aimanabad Police Station, District Gujranwala, accompanied by unidentified individuals in plain clothes, carried out a premeditated and illegal demolition of a 70-year-old Ahmadiyya place of worship, known as the Jammu Wale Dera, located near the village of Bootala Sharam Singh.
Armed with a tractor-trolley and impunity, the attackers dismantled the mihrab (prayer niche) of the Bait-ul-Zikr and desecrated the graves of two Ahmadis by smashing the sacred tombstones and removing the debris.
By dawn, the police had constructed a wall to erase the religious identity of the site and fled with the remnants of their destruction — physical evidence of their state-sanctioned erasure of Ahmadi faith and memory.

A Pattern of State Complicity
This is not an isolated act of vandalism — it is a continuation of a systematic policy of religious apartheid against the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, orchestrated by extremist actors and enabled by the police, judiciary, and political silence.
The targeting of graves, where even the dead are not spared, reflects a campaign that transcends persecution: it is extermination of identity, a genocide of memory, and a desacralization of the very idea of Ahmadi existence in Pakistan.
The desecration of this 70-year-old structure — built long before the anti-Ahmadi constitutional amendments of 1974 and Ordinance XX of 1984 — shows how history itself is now a crime for Ahmadis in Pakistan.
Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Responds
Amir Mahmood, spokesperson of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Pakistan, condemned the attack in the strongest terms, calling it “an illegal and unjustified act carried out by those whose duty is to protect, not persecute.” He urged the government and senior police officials to take notice and hold those responsible to account.

Just five days before this incident, on July 24, 2025, UN human rights experts issued a scathing warning against Pakistan’s climate of impunity and persecution of religious minorities, especially Ahmadis. The UN report documented:
- Destruction of Ahmadi mosques in Daska, Karachi, and Bahawalnagar.
- Desecration of at least 82 Ahmadi graves in Kotli, Azad Kashmir.
- Mass arrests of Ahmadi minors and disabled persons in Sargodha, Daska, and Pasrur.
- Violent Eid attacks on Ahmadi worshippers in Azizabad, Karachi.
- Gendered violence against Ahmadi women detained on blasphemy charges.
- Extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, and state complicity in mob violence.
The UN experts stated:
“Pakistan must break the pattern of impunity… these attacks take place with tacit official complicity whilst the cycle of fear prevents people and institutions from upholding the rights and dignity of these minorities.”
