Silent Genocide Continues: Punjab Police Demolish Two Ahmadiyya Worship Places in Nankana
Another Night. Another Desecration. State Machinery Bent to Extremist Demands.
On the night of September 2, 2025, Punjab Police and municipal officials, under pressure from extremist groups including Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), demolished the minarets and mihrabs of two Ahmadiyya places of worship in Chahur Mughliyan and Chahur Kotli, District Nankana Sahib.
Despite repeated objections from the Ahmadi community—who made clear they would neither demolish their sacred structures nor allow unlawful interference—the Assistant Commissioner (AC) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) arrogantly asserted they could “do whatever they wish without an order.” Hours later, the threat materialized. Police, in coordination with the municipal corporation and under recommendations of the District Intelligence Committee, carried out the demolition in the dead of night.

Religious Apartheid in Action: State Power Used to Erase a Community
This brazen operation exemplifies religious apartheid. Ahmadi Muslims are systematically targeted not just by mobs but through state-backed machinery: bulldozers instead of torches, police orders instead of mob chants.
These acts are not isolated. They form part of a broader campaign to erase Ahmadiyya religious identity by destroying mosques, sealing places of worship, desecrating graves, and criminalizing prayer.
A Direct Violation of International Human Rights and Religious Freedom
This demolition violates Pakistan’s own constitution and international human rights commitments, including:
- Article 18, Universal Declaration of Human Rights – Freedom of religion and belief
- Articles 2, 26, and 27, ICCPR – Equality before law, minority protections, freedom from discrimination
- UN Basic Principles on the Role of Law Enforcement Officials – Duty to protect all citizens
Instead of protecting minority rights, state institutions themselves desecrated sacred spaces.

Amir Mahmood, spokesperson for Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Pakistan, stated:
“The Constitution of Pakistan provides protection for our places of worship. Yet the police and administration, under extremist pressure, chose to violate the law and court orders. This is state-sanctioned persecution.”
We Demand Immediate Global Action
We urgently call upon:
- United Nations, EU, US, UK, OIC, and international civil society to denounce this demolition as religious apartheid and cultural erasure.
- Human rights organizations to document this incident as evidence of state complicity.
- Diplomatic and economic pressure on Pakistan until it fulfills its obligations under international law.
We Demand:
- Immediate reconstruction and legal protection of the Ahmadiyya worship sites at Chahur Mughliyan and Chahur Kotli.
- Independent investigation into the role of Punjab Police, municipal officials, and the District Intelligence Committee.
- Prosecution of all officials involved in the unlawful demolition.
- Repeal of anti-Ahmadi laws including Ordinance XX and PPC Sections 298-B/C.
- Official condemnation of extremist influence within state institutions.
Pakistan must not be allowed to continue operating as a religious apartheid regime—where Ahmadi Muslims are denied not only their right to worship but even the dignity of their sacred spaces.
